How do plastics get colored?

The most common form of coloring used in plastic injection molding is coloring by means of a masterbatch.

Masterbatches consist of concentrated pigments dispersed in a polymeric carrier. A premix of color pigments and additives is mixed in a predefined ratio by an extrusion process to obtain the desired color masterbatch in granulate form. Masterbatches are the most economical method of coloring plastics and can be supplied in both small and large volumes.
